Product Details:
Species: Variegated Astrophytum Caput Medusae grafted onto Ferocactus Peninsulae
Size: in a 2.75" pot
Shipping: Ships bare-root without a pot
Care Instructions:
Lighting Needs:
Place your grafted Astrophytum in bright, indirect light. It thrives under partial shade where it can receive filtered sunlight that enhances its color without causing sunburn.
Watering Schedule:
Water moderately once the soil has completely dried out, typically every 2-3 weeks during the growing season and less frequently during the winter months. The robust Ferocactus rootstock ensures good drought tolerance, but be mindful not to overwater.
Feeding Requirements:
Fertilize sparingly with a diluted cactus-specific fertilizer during the growing season (spring to early fall). Avoid fertilizing in winter to coincide with the plant's natural resting period.
Unboxing and Planting Instructions:
Upon receiving your Variegated Astrophytum Caput Medusae:
Unbox Carefully: Gently remove the plant from its packaging, handling it by the root ball rather than the tendrils or scion to prevent damage.
Choose the Right Pot: Opt for a pot with drainage holes, slightly larger than the root system. A terracotta pot is ideal as it allows for better moisture evaporation.
Soil Preparation: Use a well-draining cactus mix, or create your own mix with perlite, coarse sand, and loam to ensure excellent drainage and aeration.
Planting: Position the plant in the center of the pot and gently backfill with your soil mix. Ensure the graft union is well above the soil line.
Initial Watering: Water lightly to settle the soil around the roots, then allow it to dry out completely before the next watering.

Upon receipt of plant – carefully open and remove plant from package. Cacti should be then placed on moist soil (it helps to create an indentation for the roots). Soil mix should be chunky, such as with the use of cactus soil that includes rocks, lyca balls, perlite, sand, and soil. Soil must be well draining. All containers for plants must have drainage holes. Cacti are best watered from the bottom when the top soil has dried out. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking, and never let them sit in standing water.
