The Pioneer Nursery Pioneer Clone Archive

Orange Tiger is a sharply sculpted Gymnocalycium mihanovichii with glowing orange-to-coral variegation striped through dark green ribs like flame over armor.

Orange Tiger earns its name at a glance. This clone carries vivid orange, coral, blush pink, and deep green across a compact, ribbed body, with the color broken into irregular bands and slashes that read unmistakably as tiger-striping. The contrast is strongest along the angular rib faces, where saturated warm tones flare against olive to dark green sections, while the lower body shows deeper, moodier shading with dusky maroon undertones. What makes this plant especially memorable is its architecture. The ribs rise into pronounced, pointed tubercles that give the body a crenellated, almost plated texture rather than a smooth dome. Fine, wiry brownish spines emerge lightly from pale areoles, adding a dry, skeletal finish without obscuring the color play. The overall effect is compact, graphic, and highly textural—less a simple variegate than a small living sculpture with heat-map color and serrated relief.
