Wineglass — Gymnocalycium mihanovichii Clone Profile

Wineglass Gymnocalycium mihanovichii clone profile
The Pioneer Nursery Pioneer Clone Archive

Wineglass is a vividly bright own-root Gymnocalycium mihanovichii clone with pink-and-green marbling and sharply sculpted ribs.

Wineglass lives up to its name with a compact, poised body and a color presentation that immediately pulls focus. The epidermis shows bright pink variegation washed across the body in broad fields and ribbons, interrupted by deep green islands that read almost like brushstrokes. In this clone, the contrast is the entire performance: hot pink against dark green, carried over a low, geometric body with a crisp, starry silhouette. The rib structure gives Wineglass much of its character. Each rib rises into pointed, angular tubercles that create a faceted outline rather than a soft, rounded one, while small white areoles carry fine, slender spines that stay visually light against the saturated body. As observed here, it is an own-root plant from Thailand, and its combination of intense brightness, marbled variegation, and sharply cut form makes it especially memorable to collectors drawn to graphic Gymnocalycium selections.
