Care Guide
1. Lighting Needs
Bright, Indirect Light: Position your Ariocarpus hybrid where it receives abundant filtered sunlight. A few hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon direct sun is beneficial, but shield it from intense midday rays to prevent scorching.
2. Watering Schedule
Sparse & Infrequent: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the growing season (spring and summer), watering every 2–3 weeks is typically enough. In fall and winter, reduce watering to once a month or less, as Ariocarpus enters a dormant phase.
3. Soil & Potting
Well-Draining Medium: Use a specialized cactus or succulent mix, or create your own blend of potting soil, coarse sand, and perlite/pumice for optimal drainage.
Pot Size: Shipped in a 5-inch pot (bare root). When you re-pot, choose a container only slightly larger than the root system to avoid excess moisture retention.
4. Temperature & Environment
Warm, Dry Climate: These cacti prefer temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Protect them from frost and avoid prolonged exposure to humidity or cold drafts.
5. Fertilizing
Light Feeding: During the active growing season, apply a diluted, balanced liquid cactus fertilizer once a month. Stop fertilizing in late fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.
6. Handling & Repotting
Delicate Growth: Ariocarpus species have sensitive roots and slow growth, so handle gently when repotting. Allow the plant a week or more to adjust before the first watering in its new soil.
Unboxing & Planting Instructions
Carefully Unbox: Remove your Ariocarpus hybrid from its packaging, handling by the base to avoid damaging the delicate tubercles.
Acclimate: Place the cactus in a shaded, well-ventilated area for 1–2 days to recover from transit shock.
Potting: Fill a pot (5-inch or slightly larger) with a well-draining cactus mix. Position the plant so that its base is just above the soil line, then backfill gently.
Initial Watering: Wait about one week before watering to allow any minor root damage to heal, minimizing the risk of rot.

Upon receipt of plant – carefully open and remove plant from package. Cacti should be then placed on moist soil (it helps to create an indentation for the roots). Soil mix should be chunky, such as with the use of cactus soil that includes rocks, lyca balls, perlite, sand, and soil. Soil must be well draining. All containers for plants must have drainage holes. Cacti are best watered from the bottom when the top soil has dried out. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking, and never let them sit in standing water. If your temperatures will be below 40 degrees, please consider adding on one of our $5 72 hour heat packs, available in our store.
