Star-Shaped Elegance:
Famous for its geometric shape and minimal spines, this cactus stands out as both a conversation piece and a serene focal point.

Low-Maintenance Beauty:
Like most Astrophytum species, it thrives on minimal watering and bright light, making it easy to care for even if you’re new to cacti.

Potential Blooms:
With proper care, mature specimens can produce delicate, funnel-shaped flowers—often yellow or pale in color—adding a dash of cheer to its sophisticated form.

Care Guide
1. Light Requirements
Bright, Indirect Light: Place your 'Onzuka' cactus in a spot that receives ample filtered sunlight. A few hours of gentle, direct morning or late-afternoon sun can be beneficial, but shield it from harsh midday rays to prevent scorching.
2. Watering Schedule
Infrequent & Thorough: Water only when the top inch or two of soil is fully dry—typically every 2–3 weeks during spring and summer. In the cooler months, reduce watering to once a month or less, as the cactus goes dormant.
Drainage is Key: Overwatering is a common hazard. Always ensure excess water can drain away freely to avoid root rot.
3. Soil & Potting
Well-Draining Mix: Use a specialized cactus or succulent mix enriched with perlite, pumice, or coarse sand for improved aeration. This prevents waterlogging and encourages healthy root growth.
Snug Pot: When you re-pot (every 2–3 years), choose a container slightly bigger than the root system. Clay or terracotta pots are ideal for moisture control.
4. Temperature & Environment
Warm & Dry: It thrives in temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Avoid exposure to frost or extreme cold, and keep humidity levels low to moderate.
5. Fertilizing
Light Feeding: During the growing season (spring/summer), apply a half-strength, balanced liquid fertilizer once a month. Cease fertilizing in fall and winter to respect the plant’s natural dormancy cycle.
Unboxing & Planting Instructions
Careful Unwrap: Gently remove the cactus from its packaging, being mindful not to damage the roots.
Acclimation: Let the plant rest in a shaded or slightly cooler area for 1–2 days before potting to reduce transplant shock.
Potting: Fill a 5-inch (or slightly larger) pot with well-draining cactus mix. Position the cactus so its base sits just above the soil line, and gently backfill around the root system.
Initial Watering: Wait about one week before watering to allow any minor root injuries to heal, reducing the risk of rot.

Upon receipt of plant – carefully open and remove plant from package. Cacti should be then placed on moist soil (it helps to create an indentation for the roots). Soil mix should be chunky, such as with the use of cactus soil that includes rocks, lyca balls, perlite, sand, and soil. Soil must be well draining. All containers for plants must have drainage holes. Cacti are best watered from the bottom when the top soil has dried out. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking, and never let them sit in standing water.

If your temperatures will be below 40 degrees, please consider adding on one of our $5 72 hour heat packs, available in our store.
