Item Details
Species & Variety: Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii Monstrose “Fukuryu”
Size: Large cactus, grown in a 5-inch pot (ships bare root)
Form: Distorted or “monstrose” growth with intriguing ribs and tubercles
Condition: Healthy, well-developed structure, ideal for collectors
Why You’ll Love This Cactus
Striking Monstrose Form: The twisted, irregular ribs give this Gymnocalycium a mesmerizing silhouette not found in standard cacti.
Low-Maintenance Beauty: Like most cacti, it demands minimal watering, bright light, and occasional fertilizer—perfect for both novices and seasoned growers.
Potential for Vibrant Blooms: Under the right conditions, mature Gymnocalycium plants often produce showy flowers, adding a burst of color to their unusual shape.
Care Guide
1. Lighting
Bright, Indirect Light: Position the cactus in a spot with abundant filtered sunlight (e.g., an east or west-facing window). Some gentle direct sun in the morning or late afternoon helps maintain its color and form.
2. Watering
Infrequent & Thorough: During spring and summer (active growing season), water only when the top inch of soil feels completely dry—usually every 2–3 weeks.
Dormant Season: Reduce watering to once a month or less in fall and winter, allowing the plant to rest. Overwatering is the biggest risk to root health.
3. Soil & Potting
Well-Draining Mix: Opt for a specialty cactus or succulent mix, or create a blend of potting soil, coarse sand, and perlite/pumice. This prevents water retention and discourages rot.
Pot Size: When re-potting, choose a container only slightly larger than the root system. A terracotta pot with drainage holes is ideal for moisture control.
4. Temperature & Environment
Warm & Dry: Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii Monstrose “Fukuryu” prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C–29°C). Keep it away from frost or cold drafts, as it isn’t frost-tolerant.
5. Fertilizing
Light Feeding: During the active growing season, apply a diluted, balanced cactus fertilizer once a month. Pause fertilizing in cooler months to mimic the cactus’s natural rest cycle.
Unboxing & Planting Instructions
Careful Unwrap: Gently remove the cactus from its packaging, taking care not to damage the spines or roots.
Allow Acclimation: Let the plant rest in a shaded spot for 1–2 days to recover from shipping stress.
Potting: Use a 5-inch (or slightly larger) pot with drainage holes. Fill with a well-draining mix, place the cactus so its base is just above the soil level, and backfill lightly.
Initial Watering: Wait about a week before watering, allowing any minor root damage to heal and reducing the risk of rot.

Upon receipt of plant – carefully open and remove plant from package. Cacti should be then placed on moist soil (it helps to create an indentation for the roots). Soil mix should be chunky, such as with the use of cactus soil that includes rocks, lyca balls, perlite, sand, and soil. Soil must be well draining. All containers for plants must have drainage holes. Cacti are best watered from the bottom when the top soil has dried out. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking, and never let them sit in standing water.
