Tephrocactus Geometricus Rooting and Care Instructions
Care Instructions:
Caring for your “Dragon Egg” cactus is a straightforward and enjoyable experience. Here are some care tips to ensure its optimal growth and continued beauty.
Initial Care: Once received, please remove it from the package and prepare your soil. It should be lightly misted but mostly dry. The soil mix should be chunky and well-draining. It can help to make an indent in the soil to carefully place the bottom indent of the ball into. Let the soil dry completely. Water very sparingly – it likes to root in drier soil. Water only lightly once a week in hotter months, and once every few weeks in colder months. Do not disturb as it settles its roots into the soil. When the soil surface is dry, gently water the plant by placing its pot or container in a bowl of water so it can suck up the water from below, but only once rooted.
Lighting: Provide your cactus with bright sunlight, but not in direct full sunlight. It thrives in a sunny location but should be protected from intense, direct sunlight, which can lead to sunburn.
Temperature: Tephrocactus Geometricus “Dragon Egg” Cactus thrives in warm temperatures ranging from 70°F to 85°F (21°C to 29°C) during the day. It appreciates cooler temperatures around 50°F to 60°F (10°C to 15°C) during the night.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, typically once every 1-4 weeks, depending on environmental conditions. Ensure that the pot has proper drainage to prevent waterlogged soil. It thrives on dry soil, and does not need a lot from you!
Soil and Potting: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix to ensure good aeration and drainage for the cactus’s roots. If repotting becomes necessary, choose a container with drainage holes slightly larger than the cactus’s current one. Repot during the growing season, typically in spring or early summer.
Fertilization: Feed your Tephrocactus Geometricus “Dragon Egg” Cactus with a diluted, balanced cactus fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) to promote healthy growth. Follow the package instructions for proper dosage.
Propagation: You can propagate this cactus just by knocking one ball off of the clump as it grows! Place the new ball on dry soil and it will root.
